Question

Difficulty: HardExhaust Emissions and Noise Abatement

Under the UK Highway Code, drivers travelling on a restricted road in a built-up area are prohibited from sounding their vehicle's horn between 23:00 and 07:00 unless another road user poses a danger.

Answer: Answer

Answer

False
The statement is false because Highway Code Rule 112 establishes the horn restriction on restricted roads in built-up areas from 23:30 (11:30 pm) to 07:00 (7:00 am), not from 23:00.

Step-by-Step Solution

1
Identify the governing Highway Code rule for vehicle horn usage and noise abatement
Highway Code Rule 112 specifies the legal boundaries and nighttime curfew for sounding a vehicle's horn.
Determining the exact legal framework is required to verify statutory time windows and exceptions.
2
Verify the precise restricted hours for horn usage on restricted roads in built-up areas
The prohibited window is 23:30 to 07:00.
Rule 112 strictly defines the start of the built-up area night curfew as 23:30 (11:30 pm), rather than 23:00 (11:00 pm).
3
Compare the statement's specified timeframe with the statutory requirement
The statement asserts that the restriction starts at 23:00, which is legally inaccurate by 30 minutes.
Because the stated curfew start time conflicts with the Highway Code, the statement is false.
